Fremont, CAWe are a leading global software company dedicated to the world of computer aided design, 3D modeling and simulation— helping innovative global manufacturers design better products, faster! With the resources of a large company, and the energy of a software start-up, we have fun together while creating a world class software portfolio. Our culture encourages creativity, welcomes fresh thinking, and focuses on growth, so our people, our business, and our customers can achieve their full potential.
Position Overview:
The Emulation Hardware Support Manager will lead a global team of engineers responsible for deploying, maintaining, and optimizing emulation hardware systems (e.g., FPGA-based platforms) across hybrid environments, including on-premises data centers, cloud infrastructure, and customer sites. This role requires a strategic leader who combines technical expertise in hardware systems with operational excellence, team development, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure 99.9%+ uptime, rapid incident resolution, and scalable infrastructure growth.
The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement in hardware reliability, automation, and support processes while managing a 24/7 operational environment. This position serves as a critical bridge between R&D, IT, facilities, and customer success teams, ensuring alignment between product design, infrastructure capabilities, and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Development
* Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 19+ Emulation Hardware Support Engineers across multiple regions.
* Design and oversee on-call rotations, training programs, and career development plans to build expertise in FPGA-based systems, Linux administration, and network diagnostics.
* Implement performance metrics (e.g., MTTR < 2 hours, <5% escalations) and conduct quarterly reviews to align team goals with organizational objectives.
Infrastructure Operations & Reliability
* Own end-to-end lifecycle management of emulation hardware, including capacity planning, deployment, firmware updates, and decommissioning.
* Develop and support SOPs for hardware diagnostics, failure analysis, and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
* Partner with IT and facilities teams to optimize data center layouts, power/cooling efficiency, and hardware security protocols.
Incident Management & Escalation
* Lead critical incident response for Severity 1 issues, coordinating with engineering and customer teams to resolve outages within SLA targets.
* Conduct post-mortem analyses to identify root causes (e.g., firmware bugs, thermal throttling) and implement corrective actions.
* Maintain a knowledge base of resolved cases to accelerate future troubleshooting.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Work with R&D to provide field feedback for improving hardware design (e.g., debug interfaces, telemetry capabilities).
* Partner with sales/support teams on customer-facing activities, including pre-sales technical reviews and on-site deployment support.
* Coordinate with vendors to negotiate SLAs for component replacements and firmware support.
Process Optimization & Automation
* Implement monitoring tools to track system health metrics (latency, thermal levels, FPGA utilization).
* Automate repetitive tasks such as log analysis, firmware rollouts, and inventory tracking using Automation tools.
* Lead quarterly capacity planning reviews to align infrastructure with projected customer demand.
Qualifications:
* Education: BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience: 10+ years in hardware operations roles.
* Expertise in FPGA-based emulation systems (e.g., Veloce or Equivalent)
* Basic/Mid-level Linux administration
* Leadership: 5+ years managing technical teams in 24/7 environments. Proven track record of reducing MTTR by ≥30% through process improvements.
* Global compliance standards (ISO 27001, SOC 2)
Leadership Competencies:
* Crisis Management: Demonstrated ability to lead teams during high-pressure outages (e.g., resolving multi-rack failures under SLA deadlines).
* Stakeholder Communication: Skill in translating technical incidents into business impact reports for executives.
* Innovation: History of implementing cost-saving initiatives (e.g., predictive maintenance algorithms reducing hardware CAPEX by 15%).
This position will be subject to U.S. export control requirements under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Employment is contingent on either verifying the U.S. Person status or obtaining any necessary export license.
