RESEARCH INTERN AERO VIRTUAL SENSING - STRATEGIC STUDENT PROGRAM - 481773
Roma, ItalySiemens Digital Industries Software is driving transformation to enable a digital enterprise where engineering, manufacturing and electronics design meet tomorrow. Our solutions help companies of all sizes create and leverage digital twins that provide organizations with new insights, opportunities and levels of automation to drive innovation.
Research Intern Aero Virtual Sensing - Strategic Student Program
Based: Hybrid. Rome, Italy - Internship 6 months - Possibility of extension.
Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
Position Overview:
The study of fluid-structure interaction problems is typically an expensive endeavour as it requires many sensors or high-fidelity Finite Element (FE) models and computational fluid-dynamics (CFD) codes for a detailed fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis.
A less computationally expensive approach consists of adopting aeroelastic codes, which employ reduced-order aerodynamic models and couple them with structural reduced modal data from FE analysis.
In this context, Virtual Sensing (VS) methods can be employed to enhance and expand the capabilities of traditional physical sensors by leveraging models and Kalman-based algorithms. This innovative approach addresses key challenges in aerospace engineering, offering solutions that range from increased accuracy and efficiency to reduced weight and improved overall system performance.
To know more: [1] Siemens Digital Industries Software
Responsibilities:
* Starting from the available FE model of a flexible wing, you will focus on the following tasks:
* Validate and update the FE model with experimental data.
* Explore the capabilities of Simcenter ZAERO for aeroelastic simulation and develop real-time capable aeroelastic numerical models for the analyzed case study.
* By leveraging aeroelastic simulations data, develop a Kalman-based framework for full-field structural response reconstruction.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
* You are currently pursuing a master's degree in aerospace engineering, or a related field, in Italy.
* You have good knowledge of modal analysis, aeroelasticity, FE analysis and MATLAB environment
* Your interpersonal and communication skills, in English, enable effective collaboration within the team.
Additional Information:
The Strategic Student Program is our formal internship program at Siemens Digital Industries Software globally. You will be mentored by experts and again invaluable professional experience. At Siemens, SSP interns get access to an international student network and community, career development opportunities with professional growth pathways, comprehensive practical training throughout the program, access to the Siemens Learning Hub and other training materials, and the opportunity to work on exciting projects within a global, diverse team.
The Siemens Strategic Student Program (SSP) in Italy offers a full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (25 hours per week) paid internship. Based in Rome, Italy, the program follows a hybrid work model and runs for six months, starting from February. To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled at an Italian university for the entire duration of the program, including both Italian and international students. Both curricular and extracurricular internships are accepted.
